Guwahati: The anti-talk faction of the ULFA has claimed to have planted bombs in 24 locations in Assam as part of a protest on Independence Day that the terrorist organisation later said it cancelled due to "technical reasons".

Police said they have found some suspicious articles during searches and initiated an investigation.

The banned organisation in a statement issued to the media on Thursday said bombs were planted in multiple locations in Guwahati, Lakhimpur, Sivsagar and Dibrugarh districts. It said: "The bombs were planted as part of our protest from 6 am to 12 noon on August 15. However, the protest programme is cancelled due to some technical reasons, and we are making the locations of the bombs public so that the bombs could be defused."
