Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh broke a Guinness World Record on Saturday after more than 21 lakh earthen lamps were lit on the occasion of Maha Shivratri and the goal was to have at least 18 lakh lamps lit at the same time.

Ujjain collector Kumar Purushottam said the 'Shiv Jyoti Arpanam' programme is underway at city-of-temples and has lit as many as 21 lakh lamps on the banks of Kshipra river. It will be a 'zero waste event'.
