A Mumbai-based lawyer, Jaishri Laxmanrao Patil, and a Pune-based activist, Hemant Baburao Patil, on Tuesday separately approached the Bombay High Court, seeking an independent investigation against Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and others, concerning the fund collection allegations against Deshmukh.

On Tuesday, advocate Patil filed a criminal writ petition and sought court’s intervention to direct an independent inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or Enforcement Directorate (ED) or any other independent agency against Deshmukh, Param Bir Singh and others involved in the case.

In a separate petition, activist Hemant Baburao Patil sought an independent inquiry under the supervision of the court in the whole development.

“The Petitioner is relying on the report submitted by Param Bir Singh, which shows the nature of the criminal conspiracy,” said petition a copy of which was reviewed by ET. “about getting money from 1750 bar restaurants and targeting Rs 100 crores a month.”

The petition further alleges that being the superior police officer and having powers under Section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Singh failed to register an FIR and the reasons for this inaction should be investigated.

The development comes a day after the former Mumbai Police commissioner moved the Supreme Court, seeking an independent CBI probe into the alleged malpractices by Deshmukh.
