Shivani who was 17 years old was studying in Palia town when she became ill with typhoid fever, which she had been experiencing for a week.
A video clip circulated on social media showed the brothers, one of them was carrying the body, going along railway tracks on high land with floodwaters on either side.
It seems that they were going to the Kishanpur sanctuary area near Bhira, specifically to Kaanp.
Manoj informed a few reporters that they managed to arrange a horse-drawn cart up to the Atariya railway crossing, when they crossed the flooded road and started the final part of their journey on foot, while his brother walked along the tracks carrying Shivani's body.
He added that because of the suspension of road traffic to Palia due to floods in the Sharda River, they were unable to arrange for a vehicle to bring their sister's body back to village or to give her adequate medical care.
Manoj stated that although his sister was admitted to the hospital in Palia, her health worsened and oxygen support was required. He said that on Wednesday, the overflowing Sharda severely blocked vehicular traffic in the town, making it impossible to take her to Lakhimpur for proper care. A day later, Shivani passed away, Manoj stated.
