Two people were killed in two separate terror attacks in Srinagar and Udhampur, respectively, on Wednesday. An independent sarpanch was shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar's outskirts, while one person was killed and 14 injured in an IED blast outside the Udhampur district court complex.

The Resistance Front, a shadow outfit of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the Srinagar murder. Sarpanch Sameer Bhat had security cover and was lodged in a hotel in Srinagar. However, he was attacked while he was in his home in Khonmoh on the outskirts of the city. Terrorists barged into Bhat's house and fired indiscriminately on him. He was rushed to a hospital where he died, police said.

Preliminary probe suggested the Udhampur blast was "an act of terrorists but we are investigating the case. A forensic and minute scrutiny will reveal more accurate facts," DGP Dilbagh Singh said. The IED blast took place around 1 pm in Slathia Chowk where fruit and vegetable vendors park carts.
