Twin Jolts: Earthquakes hit Ladakh and Lanka

India and Sri Lanka experienced earthquakes, with a magnitude 4.4 earthquake in Ladakh's Kargil region and a magnitude 6.1 earthquake near Colombo in Sri Lanka. No immediate casualties have been reported.

Asian nations India and Sri Lanka were jolted by earthquakes on Tuesday, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake hit the Kargil region of Northern union territory, Ladakh, whose depth was 20 kilometers.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Occurred on 14-11-2023, 13:08:50 IST, Lat: 37.28 & Long: 75.21, Depth: 20 Km ,Location: 314km NNW of Kargil, Laddakh, India," the NCS said on X.



Another earthquake of magnitude 6.1 jolted the island nation, Sri Lanka. The NCS reported that the epicentre was located at 1326km South East of Colombo and latitude of -2.96; longitude of 86.54 with a depth of 10 Km.

No casualties have been reported yet.

Earlier this month, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's Banda Sea, the United States Geological Survey said, with no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

According to USGS, no tsunami warning was issued for the quake, initially reported as a magnitude 6.9, which hit at 11:53 am local time (0453 GMT).
