Trump hails PM Modi as leader who 'gets things done', says US-India ties will be stronger going forward

US President Donald Trump lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a leader who "gets things done." Trump expressed confidence that the strong relationship between the United States and India will continue to grow even stronger in the future.

US President Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a leader who “gets things done”, while expressing confidence that the relationship between the two countries will grow stronger in the coming years.

In a message routed through the US Embassy in India, Trump said, "Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that get things done, something that cannot be said for most."

On Tuesday, the two leaders held a discussion about the escalating Middle East conflict, stressing the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz open and secure, as the Iran war entered fourth week, creating a major crisis in energy supplies that is impacting every corner of the global economy.

"Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest," PM Modi said in a post on Ax. "Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability."

U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor informed on X, that Trump and Modi discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East, including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.

Since the beginning of the Middle East war, this was the first time that the top leadership of both the countries engaged on discussions.

On March 23, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar held a "detailed telecon" with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the West Asia conflict and its impact on the international economy. They particularly spoke about energy security concerns and agreed to remain in touch.
