Tripura's TSECL earns Rs 1,165.37 crore supplying electricity to Bangladesh in 10 years

Guwahati: Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has earned Rs 1,165.37 crore in the past ten years by supplying electricity to neighbouring Bangladesh.

Tripura’s Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that TSECL is currently supplying electricity to Bangladesh at Rs 6.76 per unit, compared to the initial rate of Rs 5.50 per unit when the cross-border power supply began.

Nath said, “Tripura started supplying 100 MW of power to Bangladesh from ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) power plant in southern Tripura in March 2016. The power supply was subsequently increased at times to 192 MW.”


He said that on August 9, TSECL supplied 200 MW of electricity to the neighbouring country.

Nath said that TSECL has requested to increase the supply to at least 250 MW as the neighbouring country is facing a significant shortage of electricity to meet the growing demand of consumers.

The OTPC is a joint venture between Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS), IDFC Bank and the Tripura government.
