The Khowai police station has booked these leaders under Section 186/34 of the Indian Penal Code. A senior police officer, who does not want to be named, told ET, “When you sit in a dharna in a police station and point fingers at police officers while talking, FIR and cases will definitely be lodged.”
Following the attack on its members, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee rushed to Tripura on Sunday.
On Saturday and Sunday last week, several political clashes between the BJP and the TMC leaders and workers took place in three districts – Dharmanagar in North Tripura District, Ambassa in Dhalai District and Khowai in Khowai district – injuring at least 15 TMC leaders and members and damaging several cars.
Those attacked included Debangshu Bhattacharya, Sudip Raha, and Jaya Dutta from West Bengal.
The TMC delegation led by Abhishek Banerjee reached Khowai. Banerjee remained seated in the police station. Police detained 14 TMC leaders and workers for “violations of Covid protocols and restrictions. They are produced in a court.
West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had alleged that the recent attacks on Abhishek Banerjee and others in Tripura were done “on the instructions" of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and asserted that such acts “will not cow her down".
TMC is expanding in Tripura and carrying out organisational activities. TMC General Secretary Kunal Ghosh alleged that ruling BJP is scared of TMC and that is why they have lodged false FIR against its leaders.
