Trinamool seeks inquiry into Assam PPE kit deal

The Trinamool Congress in Assam on Wednesday organised a 'March to Raj

Bhavan' seeking an inquiry into the 2020 PPE kit procurement issue. The rally was led by Assam TMC chief Ripun Bora who submitted a memorandum to the Governor .

The Aam Adami Party, Assam, had filed an FIR in a Guwahati police station alleging anomalies in the procurement of PPE kits in Assam. AAP alleged that PPE kit contracts were awarded to a company linked to chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife.


"Himanta Biswa Sarma awarded the contract to his wife's company. He paid '990 for the PPE kits while others were purchased at '600 apiece from another company on the same day. This is a huge crime." Opposition parties, including the Congress, Raijor Dal and Assam Jatiya Parishad, have demanded a probe by the central agency into the 'irregularities in the purchase of sanitisers and PPE kits - in 2020. Around 50,000 PPE kits from Guangzhou in China arrived in 2020.
