Residents across Delhi-NCR and parts of Kashmir's Srinagar felt strong tremors on Saturday after a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region at 7. 04pm IST, according to the National Centre for Seismology.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage in Delhi-NCR, Kashmir or Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey said the earthquake struck approximately 43 km south of Jurm, a town in Afghanistan's northeastern Badakhshan province.

According to reports by Reuters' witnesses, the tremors from the hit were also felt in Afghan capital Kabul and northern Pakistan.

The earthquake originated in the seismically active Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, an area that frequently experiences powerful quakes due to the collision of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
