Delhi-NCR and other parts of Northern India experienced tremors on Wednesday afternoon after an earthquake of magnitude 5.75 hit Pakistan.

"Earthquake of magnitude 5.8 hit Pakistan at about 12:58 PM," said National Center for Seismology in a post on X. The quake's epicentre was located 25 km south-west of Karor, Pakistan, at a depth of 10 km. The tremors were also felt in major Pakistani cities, including Islamabad and Lahore.

The United States Geological Survey however stated that the extent of the quake was recorded at magnitude 5.4, affecting India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.


The seismic activity extended its reach to various states, such as Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir.

No reports of loss of lives or property have emerged as of now.

Pakistan authorities were on alert “to deal with the aftershocks of the earthquake”, said Dawn report quoting an official.

“District Emergency Operation Centers across Pakistan's Punjab are on 24/7 alert,” as per the report.

In 2005, a magnitude 7.6 quake killed thousands of people in Pakistan and Kashmir.
