Reflecting on the milestone, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal noted that India’s manufacturing vision has evolved from catering predominantly to local demand to manufacturing at scale for global markets.
“The real story of Make in India goes beyond these numbers. It is the confidence it has created. The confidence among our startup founders, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, innovators, exporters and, most importantly, our people that ‘India can make, India can innovate, and India can compete with the world’,” Goyal remarked.
Government records indicate substantial momentum in the manufacturing space, driven significantly by Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes designed to spur output, investment, and export capacity. Official data through March 31, 2026, shows that PLI schemes generated approximately Rs 2.40 lakh crore in actual investment, yielding around Rs 23.8 lakh crore in production and sales, alongside Rs 15.2 lakh crore in exports and creating over 14.6 lakh direct and indirect jobs.
