Guwahati: Eleven people from Assam have been reported missing in Nepal following devastating flash floods, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said on Saturday.

ASDMA bulletin stated five people who are stranded in Nepal have confirmed that they are safe.

State government has set up a flood-related emergency help desk at Assam House in New Delhi to coordinate assistance and provide information to families seeking updates about those affected.


The flash floods were triggered after an ice-rock avalanche caused by a glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border.

Confirmed safe people include Pankaj Barman, Samar Bezbaruah, Shiva Marak, Sarbison Marak, and Elipson Sangma.

Eleven people remain missing. The people are from districts including Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup Metro, Nalbari, and West Karbi Anglong.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Say stated in X ," I just spoke to eight people from Assam who have been safely rescued in Nepal, thanks to the dedicated efforts of @Varun_CGCorp Ji.

Pankaj Verma, Samar Bezbaruah, Gautam Das, Gopal Debnath, Soneswar Narzary, Sarbison Marak, Silva Marak and Elphison Sangma are safe and will return home tomorrow.

Efforts are continuing to trace the others and ensure their safe return at the earliest.
