Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the building collapse at Satya Niketan in Delhi and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

"The collapse of a building at Satya Niketan, Delhi is distressing. Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are working at the site and assisting those affected in the mishap," Modi said in a post on X.

A five-storey building collapsed in Delhi's South-West district's Satya Niketan area on Sunday, killing three people and critically injuring five others, police sources told PTI. Several others were feared trapped under the debris.

The building housed a boys' paying guest accommodation and is located near Delhi University's South Campus. Rescue operations are being carried out by teams from the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other agencies.

The fire department received an alert around 1:30 pm, following which eight fire tenders and police teams were rushed to the site. Five injured people were shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, according to CATS Nodal Officer Balraj Singh.
