Manipur ambush by suspected NSCN-IM militants leaves one dead, one injured and two missing

Guwahati: A person was killed and another injured and two people remained missing following an ambush by suspected militants in Manipur.

A senior police officer said ,"Four civilians travelling on two two-wheelers to Phaikoh to purchase essential commodities were ambushed by suspected NSCN-IM militants between Molnoi and Phaikoh.The incident occurred in Kamjong District."

The officer said," One of the victims, identified as Hatneikim Haokip, is suspected to have been killed on the spot, while her husband reportedly escaped with bullet injuries. The other two civilians remain missing, and their whereabouts are still unknown.The incident reportedly occurred between 4 PM and 5 PM".


Recently Manipur’s three hill districts of Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi as the death toll in a fresh round of clashes involving the Naga and Kuki communities rose to nine.

The fresh killings were reported in Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts on Friday and Saturday last week making the latest outbreak one of the deadliest episodes of violence in Manipur this year.

At least 306 people have been killed, and 49 remain missing in the ethnic violence that has gripped Manipur since May 2023, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam told the state assembly on September 3, 2026.
