The injured woman is seen lying on the rails in a widely shared video of the incident, which shows the local train gradually reversing after passengers on the platform alerted it. As she boarded the packed train, the woman—who was headed to Thane from the scene of the accident—missed a step and tumbled over the rails. One of the train's compartments ran over her as it was already moving. The train began reversing as other passengers and security guards on the station raised an alarm.
The video also showed that police officers can be seen rushing onto the tracks to assist the woman who is struggling to sit up due to her bloodied feet.
According to Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila, "a Panvel-Thane train on platform number three of Belapur station was reversed to save the life of the woman commuter, who was later rushed to nearby MGM hospital." The railway official stated that the woman's legs were severely injured as the train passed over her.
