In view of the farmers' protest, traffic was affected on Wednesday at the borders of the national capital as the Centre deployed heavy force in and around Delhi, police said.

A huge jam was witnessed at the Delhi-Haryana's Singhu border and Delhi-Noida border due to heavy deployment of the security personnel to prevent the farmers from reaching the national capital.

The farmers, however, called the heavy force deployment as their "moral victory".


"The Centre has by deploying heavy force in and around Delhi to prevent the farmers from reaching the national capital accepted the ongoing stir is now countrywide," farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said.

He also claimed that nearly 100 farmers had been detained in parts of Rajasthan when they were on their way to Delhi.

The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), the two umbrella bodies that are spearheading the farmers' agitation, had on Sunday called on farmers across the country to reach Delhi on Wednesday. The call was given by farmer leaders Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal.

Police have installed barricades at borders and other parts of the city and intensified checking on roads leading to central Delhi.
