TMC for united fight against BJP, CPM must clarify its stand: Abhishek Banerjee

Trinamool National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday said his party has always urged all like-minded anti-BJP parties to come together and CPM can clarify its own stand on the INDIA alliance's coordination committee meeting. Banerjee's comments came a day after the central committee of the CPM allowed the Bengal CPM unit to field candidates against the Trinamool Congress in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Trinamool Congress also posted on its 'X' handle that "recognising the importance of solidarity in safeguarding democratic values, Shri @abhishekaitc affirmed that our doors are always open to all like-minded parties. In this fight against the BJP, we shall stand tall and united!" On CPM's stand not to be part of the INDIA bloc's co-ordination committee, Banerjee said, "CPM can clarify its position."

Senior CPM leader Sujan Chakraborty, however, clarified they have not been invited to the coordination committee meeting.


Meanwhile, after the polit bureau meeting yesterday, CPM said, "The polit bureau decided to work for the further consolidation and expansion of the INDIA bloc to strengthen the efforts to safeguard the secular, democratic character of the Indian Republic, the Constitution, democracy and people's fundamental rights and civil liberties. This requires that the BJP must be kept away from controlling the Union government and state power." CPM, in its statement, said yesterday the "polit bureau endorsed the CPM's position at the last three meetings of INDIA bloc in Patna, Bengaluru and Mumbai to organise a series of public meetings across the country and to mobilize the people to ensure the defeat of the BJP in the forthcoming elections."
