Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that there is no time for focusing on smaller issues and the nation must move to bigger canvas now to reach its rightful place.

He was addressing a gathering of MPs at the historic Central Hall of the old Parliament building during a function to commemorate the rich legacy of the Parliament of India.

"In the 25 years of Amrit Kaal, India will have to work on a larger canvas. The time for us to get caught up in smaller issues is over," said the Prime Minister.

"First of all, we will have to meet the goal of becoming Atmanirbhar Bharat. It is the need of the hour, it is everyone's duty. Parties do not come in its way. Sirf Dil chahiye, desh ke liye chahiye," he added.

He urged Members of Parliament to reaffirm the commitment to make India a developed nation by 2047 and described the move to the new Parliament building as a new beginning towards a new future.

"In the new Parliament building, we are going to make new beginnings for a new future," Modi said.

"Since 1952, 41 heads of states from across the world have addressed our MPs in the Central Hall and more than 4,000 laws have been passed by Parliament in the last seven decades," the prime minister said.

PM Modi also suggested that the old building of the Parliament be known as 'Samvidhan Sadan.' He said "Now, when we are going to the New Parliament, its (Old Parliament building) dignity should never go down. This should not be left just as the Old Parliament building. So, I urge that if you agree, this should be known as Samvidhan Sadan."

Modi said, "Now, we have to walk towards being the best in the world in the manufacturing sector. I had said from the Red Fort - Zero Defect, Zero Effect. There should be no defect in our products and the process should not have an effect on the environment. We have to go before the world with this 'Zero Defect, Zero Effect'..."

Talking about the G20 summit, Modi said India emerged as the voice of global south in the G20 summit.

"We believe in equitable development and India's prosperity would be incomplete even if one part is lagging behind," he added.

The debate around social justice has been narrowed, he said and it needs to be widened.
