Vrindavan: Rescue personnel clear debris after shuttering collapses at an under-construction Omaxe mall in Rukmani Vihar, Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh. Three workers were allegedly killed in the incident.
Three workers, including a Nepali national, were killed and several others injured after the shuttering of a multi-storey building under construction collapsed in Vrindavan on Friday morning, police said. The incident took place around 7 am at the Omaxe Mall construction site in the Rukmani Vihar area, where workers were pouring concrete for a projecting slab on the fourth floor, a PTI report stated.

Shuttering collapses during concrete work

The collapse occurred at the construction site under the Vrindavan Kotwali police station limits, mall manager R K Jain said.Several workers were trapped under the debris following the collapse. Police and fire brigade personnel, assisted by local residents, started a rescue operation and pulled out the injured workers.

The injured were taken to different hospitals for treatment.


Three workers killed

One of the deceased was identified as Shivram, 42, a Nepali national. He died at the spot, police said. Two other workers, whose identities have not yet been established, died while undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

Dr Bhudev Prasad, in-charge of the Rapid Response Team of the Chief Medical Officer's (CMO) office, said the two unidentified workers were aged around 35-40.

Several injured

Another worker, Dildar Singh, 40, a resident of West Bengal, was admitted to a hospital in Vrindavan in critical condition, Dr Prasad said. Several other workers are receiving treatment at different hospitals.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar said three deaths had been confirmed. He said one of the deceased was a Nepali national, while the other two were from West Bengal.

No one else trapped, police say

The fire brigade carried out a thorough search of the site and confirmed that no other person was trapped under the debris, SSP Kumar said. Police are investigating the incident and are trying to determine what caused the shuttering to collapse.
