Three tourists from Sweden detained by Assam police, released

A senior police officer who does not want to be named told ET, "Those were apprehended under section 14b&14c of the The Foreigners Act 1946 were interrogated."

Three tourist from Sweden were detained by Assam police and later released.

A senior police officer who does not want to be named told ET, "Those were apprehended under section 14b&14c of the The Foreigners Act 1946 were interrogated."

He said that they were in prayer and peace meeting in Namrup under Dibrugarh police station. They were engaged in prayer activity with tourist visa.


The officer said, "Police had initiated suo moto case. The church body which organised the prayers had requisite permission. We will arrange for deportation."

The officer added, " The embassy is in touch with state Police and accordingly steps are taken to deport them."
