Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed sadness over the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased. The mishap occurred in the morning when an APSRTC bus collided with platform number 12 at the terminus, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of three people. Tragically, an 18-month-old girl who was injured in the incident later succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.
According to the regional manager, M Yesu Danam, instead of reversing the vehicle, the driver accidentally drove forward, causing the bus to overshoot the platform. In response to the tragedy, the Chief Minister extended his condolences to the grieving families and instructed officials to ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment. He also ordered an inquiry into the accident, as stated in a release from the Chief Minister's Office.
APSRTC Executive Director (Operations), A Koteshwar Rao, assured that the road transport corporation would take care of the medical expenses of the two injured individuals. The Vijayawada bus station serves as a crucial connection point for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with the Vijayawada-Guntur route being one of the most prominent. The police have registered a case in relation to the incident.
