Three Bangladeshi cattle lifters were hacked to death, while two Indian villagers sustained injuries during a clash between the two sides in a border village in Tripura’s Khowai district on Wednesday.

According to a senior police official, two Indian villagers from the Bidyabil area had gone to work in a rubber garden when they noticed three Bangladeshi men hiding there. “They noticed three Bangladeshi men were hiding in the rubber garden. When they inquired, the cattle lifters turned aggressive and attacked them with sharp weapons. The injured Indians returned to their villages, and villagers rushed to the border where a clash broke out, during which the three were allegedly hacked to death,” the officer said.

The two injured villagers from Bidyabil are currently receiving treatment at Behelabari Government Hospital.

Police, accompanied by forensic experts, reached the spot and recovered the three bodies, which were later sent to Khowai District Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Tripura shares an 856-kilometre-long border with Bangladesh. Except for some stretches, most of the frontier is fenced.
