In a move to modernize the Thiruvananthapuram's police force and make it on par with the standards of European law enforcement agencies, the city police have introduced electric hoverboard patrolling. As per a TOI report, these innovative hoverboards will initially be deployed by the traffic police, primarily on bustling roads where conventional two-wheelers and four-wheelers face challenges during patrolling, ensuring the safety of pedestrians.

The primary objective behind this initiative is to establish a visible police presence in every nook and cranny of the city. Hoverboard patrolling will also play a pivotal role in curbing unauthorized parking and maintaining smooth traffic flow.

Furthermore, the hoverboard patrolling will extend into the night, bolstering the safety of women and children in areas that have reported frequent incidents of crime. The city police also emphasize that these patrols will actively target anti-social elements to maintain law and order.

These futuristic hoverboards are equipped with two small wheels, a handle, and a platform that allows a police officer to stand and operate them. They come with a self-balancing system, enabling the officer to control speed and easily maneuver in any direction using the handle. This makes them particularly suitable for patrolling narrow roads where larger vehicles struggle to navigate.

The hoverboards feature a range of high-tech amenities, including a digital display, wireless remote control, LED lights, speed control system, bicycle light, and a reliable charging system. They are capable of reaching speeds of up to 20 kilometers per hour and can carry a weight of up to 120 kilograms.

Moreover, a single charge can power these hoverboards for up to seven hours, making them a cost-effective and efficient addition to the police fleet. Each of these advanced hoverboards comes at a price of Rs 1.6 lakh.
