Move ahead of state elections
The move comes just ahead of elections in five states, particularly in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The farm protests were predicted to dent the BJP's electoral fortunes in western UP, while pushing it out of the race in Punjab. The announcement will give the party common ground to ally with former CM Amarinder Singh in Punjab.
