The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) held a black-flag bike rally across Shillong on Wednesday, during which several vehicles were torched and vandalised in the evening.
The student organisation had called the rally after the expiry of its 15-day ultimatum to the state government over a five-point charter of demands.
A senior police official said the rally stated around 4 pm from the KSU office at Jaiaw in Shillong. “There are reports of vandalism in and around the statue of Swami Vivekananda”.

The KSU has been demanding cancellation of the July 31 public hearing for the proposed Cement project in East Jaintia Hills. The union has also demanded implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016, enforcement of the 2024 amendments concerning migrant workers and changes to government recruitment, including removal of personal interviews for Grade C and D posts and reservation of government jobs for Meghalaya residents.
On Tuesday KSU has has put up banners at the Meghalaya Secretariat gate.
