A senior police officer, who did not want to be named, told ET, "Some armed youths had raided a few villages in Moirang in Bishnupur district on Wednesday. When some inmates of a relief camp at Moirang came out to see what was happening, a youth, Toijam Chandramani, was hit by a bullet from the back." He said that Chandramani was immediately taken to a private hospital in a serious condition but he died a little later. Tension escalated after the death of the youth.
Police sources said miscreants torched three houses of different communities at Phoubakchao in Bishnupur district on Tuesday night. In retaliation, some youths of another community burnt down four houses.
In another incident, a person who was guarding his village at Kadangband Part 1 under Kangchup police station in Imphal West sustained bullet injuries after suspected miscreants attacked him around 1.25 am on Wednesday. The injured villager has been identified as Aribam Rishikesh.
Govindas Konthoujam confirmed that his house was attacked by a mob of 100 to 150 people. He was not there in the house.
A 15-member delegation of different political parties, led by Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, will meet Union home minister Amit Shah during his visit to Guwahati on Thursday and apprise him about the situation in the state.
