Tension in Assam's Nagaon after man dies of alleged police beating

Mob protested in front of the police station with dead body of the youth. They pelted stones at the police station and police vehicles were damaged. To quell the mob police had to baton charge.

Tension is prevailing in Rupahihat in Assam's Nagaon after a youth died allegedly following beating by police for violation of lockdown.

Mob protested in front of the police station with dead body of the youth. They pelted stones at the police station and police vehicles were damaged. To quell the mob police had to baton charge.

A senior police official, who do no not want to be named, however, told ET, " Betting was going in and when police raided people started running. One such person fell in a water body and died."


The deceased youth is identified as Sohaib Akhtar of Gareki village.
