Telangana rains: Work from home advisory issued, police urges public to avoid travel to these places

The Telangana government has intensified relief operations in response to the severe rains that have wreaked havoc across the state, leading to the loss of at least nine lives and widespread flooding in low-lying areas. Despite a slight reduction in rainfall on Monday morning, the situation remains dire in several areas. The heavy rains have also caused significant disruptions to transportation, with traffic on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway being diverted due to floodwaters covering the road.

The transportation sector has been severely impacted, with the South Central Railway, headquartered in Secunderabad, canceling numerous train services and rerouting others. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for extremely heavy rainfall in Adilabad district on Monday.

Work from home advisory

In light of the ongoing weather conditions, Cyberabad Police have advised IT and ITES companies to allow employees to work from home on September 2 to reduce the risks associated with commuting and to alleviate traffic congestion, ensuring that emergency services can operate without obstruction.

Road Advisory

Due to continuous heavy rainfall, significant disruptions have been reported on key routes in the region. Based on inputs from the Superintendent of Police, Suryapet, and the Commissioner of Police, Khammam, the following advisory is issued for public safety.

Affected Routes:
NH 65 at Chillakallu and Nandigama, Andhra Pradesh: Heavy rainfall has caused flooding on the highway, making it impassable.
Paleru River at Nayakani Gudem (Suryapet to Khammam route): The river has overflowed onto the road, creating hazardous conditions.
Bridge Collapse at Ramapuram X Road (after Kodad Town, Suryapet District, Telangana): The bridge has collapsed, further complicating travel in the area.

Advisory: Postpone Travel - Citizens are strongly advised to delay their travel plans for safety reasons.
Alternate Routes: If travel is unavoidable, the following alternate routes are recommended:
For Travel from Hyderabad to Vijayawada: Route: Hyderabad → Choutuppal → Chityal → Narketpally → Nalgonda → Miryalaguda → Piduguralla → Guntur → Vijayawada.
For Travel from Hyderabad to Khammam: Route: Hyderabad → Choutuppal → Chityal → Nakrekal → Arvapally → Thungathurthy → Maddirala → Marripeta Bungalow → Khammam.

In response to the ongoing emergency, 26 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are being deployed across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for flood relief and rescue operations. Of these, 12 teams are already on the ground, with an additional 14 teams being dispatched. Rivers in both states have swelled, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents to relief camps by national and state disaster response teams. Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have also spoken with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana CM A. Revanth Reddy, offering assurances of all possible assistance from the central government in dealing with the ongoing crisis.
