Telangana rain: Two cops with help of locals save a 50-year-old from drowning
Telangana has been hit hard by relentless torrential rains, leading to severe waterlogging, widespread disruption, and tragic loss of life. The unceasing downpours have caused lakes, tanks, and streams to overflow, submerging low-lying areas and cutting off access to many villages. The severity of the situation has put a strain on the state’s infrastructure, particularly the railway network, where tracks have sustained significant damage, leading to the cancellation of multiple trains.

Heroic Rescue Effort

One of the most harrowing incidents during this period of intense rainfall occurred when a 50-year-old daily laborer was swept away by a swollen stream while attempting to cross a flooded culvert. This unfortunate event highlights the dangers faced by residents in flood-affected areas as they attempt to navigate treacherous conditions. However, a potential tragedy was averted when two brave police officials. Head Constable Abdul Taqi Khan and Constable Mudavath Ramu, noticed the man clinging desperately to a shrub in the midst of the raging Naganul Vagu stream in Nagarkurnool. Without hesitation, the officers rushed to the middle of the culvert, risking their lives to reach the man.

In an extraordinary display of community spirit and quick thinking, local youths used an SUV to assist in the rescue operation. The vehicle was strategically positioned to block the flow of water, reducing the pressure on the officers and the man in danger. Forming a human chain, the officers and one of the youths managed to reach the man and pull him to safety. This courageous act underscored the resilience and determination of the community in the face of nature’s fury.

Telangana School Closures

The state government, recognizing the severity of the situation, has taken swift action to mitigate the impact of the heavy rains. Telangana’s Minister of Information and Public Relations, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, announced that all private and government schools in heavily affected areas, particularly in Hyderabad, would remain closed. The decision was made to ensure the safety of children, preventing them from venturing out into dangerous conditions.

Meanwhile, the state’s rescue and relief efforts have been intensified. At the national level, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been closely monitoring the situation in Telangana and the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, both of which have been severely impacted by the rains. On Sunday, the Prime Minister spoke with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, offering his assurance of all possible assistance from the central government.
