HC sets April 13 deadline for naming Telangana DGP
The Telangana High Court has set an April 13 deadline for the state government to appoint a full-time Director General of Police (DGP) from the panel shortlisted by the UPSC.

B. Shivadhar Reddy, appointed in September last year, is currently serving as the acting DGP. In fact, the state has not had a full-time DGP since 2017.

The Supreme Court in February had flagged that states were avoiding appointing full-time DGPs with a fixed two-year tenure as mandated.

Following the apex court's directions, the UPSC on March 12 submitted a panel of three IPS officers - CV Anand, currently Special Chief Secretary (Home); Vinayak Prabhakar Apte, Special Director, Intelligence Bureau; and Soumya Mishra, DG Prisons - for the state to choose from. The matter will be taken up again on April 13, when the state is expected to inform the High Court of its decision.
