Private college owners in Telangana have threatened to go on strike from October 13 if the state government fails to clear fee reimbursement dues of ₹900 crore. The institutions include pharma, MBA, nursing, MCA and BEd colleges, which receive reimbursements to reduce the fee burden on students.

The total dues to private colleges stand at ₹1,200 crore. On September 15, colleges had gone on strike but withdrew after the government assured them that ₹600 crore would be released by Dasara and another ₹600 crore by Diwali. So far, only ₹300 crore has been paid.

College managements have warned of an indefinite strike if the balance is not cleared before October 13. The standoff has become a flashpoint against the Congress government, already battling a cash crunch.

The BJP has seized the issue to attack the ruling party. "When it comes to cheating students, Congress writes the textbook. Colleges are now forced into a fresh strike because the Congress once again betrayed them over fee reimbursement," Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar posted on X, accusing the government of reneging on its promise.
