The President emphasised that women's respect should be demonstrated not just in words, but also in practice. Her comments come days after she voiced concern about the Kolkata rape case and other incidences of violence against women across the country.
President Murmu presented the annual National Teachers' Awards to 82 teachers from various schools, higher education institutes, and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Each award includes a certificate of merit, a monetary award of ₹50,000, and a silver medal.
President Murmu highlighted in her speech that instructors must create individuals who are not just educated, but also sensitive, honest, and enterprising. She noted that, while it is desirable to progress and strive for success in life, true meaning comes from working for the well-being of others.
President Murmu stated that teachers have a responsibility to instill in their children the virtues of compassion and ethical conduct. She also urged educators not to view their profession solely as a job, but rather to focus on students, pay equal attention to all of them, and assist in identifying and nurturing each child's innate talents.
The President, quoting Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, expressed confidence that all teachers will continue to acquire knowledge in order to keep their lessons relevant, entertaining, and up to date with world advances and skills.
