As per a ToI report, Nilesh Adhav conducted a 'mahamrutunjay japa' chanting and installed a 'mahamrutunjay yantra' in an attempt to prevent future accidents at the site.
Taking to social media and other platforms, Adhav publicized his actions, claiming that his prayers would safeguard the area within a 5 km radius of the 'yantra' from further accidents. He further asserted that the 'japa' and 'yantra' would ensure no fatalities on the specified stretch.
However, Adhav's actions did not go unnoticed. Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ajay Malviya, accompanied by a team from Sindkhedraja police station, visited the site after the incident garnered widespread attention on news channels and social media. Adhav was charged under the Prevention of Black Magic Act, 2013, and served a notice to participate in the investigation.
In a subsequent video, Adhav has meanwhile admitted to misleading the public and promoting superstitious activities, seeking forgiveness for his actions. SDPO Malviya appealed to the public to refrain from believing in such unsubstantiated beliefs and urged against indulging in similar gimmicks.
While the teacher faced consequences for his actions, the authorities are yet to take action against the bus owner, despite the driver's arrest following the accident. The police told ToI that the Regional Transport Offices at Buldhana and Yavatmal have been slow in submitting reports, causing delays in the investigative process.
