Gujarat forms task force formed on black fungus amid rising cases

More than 11,000 cases of the disease have been reported from across the country, with Gujarat topping the chart with 2,859 active cases.

With cases of mucormycosis or black fungus increasing alarmingly in Gujarat, the state government has formed an 11-member special task force to combat the disease.

The task force comprises specialist doctors from hospitals and medical colleges of dental, ENT, ophthalmology and medicine departments. Its mandate is to suggest ways to maintain uniformity in the treatment as well as suggest a single treatment formula of mucormycosis. It will decide the protocol and guidelines of treatment through continuous consultation. More than 11,000 cases of the disease have been reported from across the country, with Gujarat topping the chart with 2,859 active cases.
