Tamil Nadu government declares holiday on November 1

The Tamil Nadu government has declared a holiday to all government offices, state public sector undertakings, schools and colleges on November 1, the day after Deepavali.

The move is for the convenience of students, parents, teacher and government staff travelling to their native places for the festival. To compensate for this holiday, November 9 will be a working day.



An official release from the govt stated, "The govt has declared 9 November as a working day to make up for the holiday."

The supreme body of govt and teachers’ associations, JACTTO-GEO had earlier made a request to the chief minister for November 1 to be a holiday.


They argued that most teachers and government officials would face difficulties returning to work on Friday after celebrating the festival in their native places.

The government announcement now ensures that its offices and institutions, which already have holidays on Saturday and Sunday, will get an extended holiday from Thursday.
