Talks hit venue hurdle as CJP calls nationwide stir

New Delhi: The Centre's fresh push for talks with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) ran into a hurdle over the venue for the proposed meeting, with the youth-led outfit insisting on a neutral location or Jantar Mantar even as it announced nationwide "peaceful protests" on Friday.

Announcing a campaign titled "Every District. One Day. One Demand." on X, CJP appealed to student unions and other organisations to organise coordinated demonstrations across districts, saying the protests would express solidarity with those it claimed had faced police action during the ongoing agitation.

Under a section titled "What & How To Do", the outfit asked local organisers to work together to secure permissions and manage logistics for the demonstrations. It also urged them to read out students' demands before the gatherings and express solidarity with those affected by the police action.

The protest call came even as Union Minister Jitendra Singh said the government had sent four formal proposals to CJP representatives since Wednesday afternoon and remained ready to hold discussions at any time.

"The government has sent four formal proposals for discussions with their representatives since last afternoon. This is a standing invitation to all our youth friends that the government is ready for discussions on all issues at your convenience, at any time," Singh said.

He said the meeting could be held either at Union Health Minister J P Nadda's office or residence and that both ministers would participate.
