The 2027 summit in Geneva will centre on the application of international law, fundamental rights and ethical development of AI governance to ensure smaller nations have an active voice in global policy, as Switzerland takes a cue from the Indian focus on global south and vision for 'Technology for All', according to people familiar with the matter.
Leveraging premier institutes such as ETH Zurich and EPFL, Switzerland provides an advanced research ecosystem for critical technology conversations, they said. Switzerland has actively chaired the Council of Europe's Committee on AI, positioning it perfectly to help draft binding international AI treaties.

At the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin had said, "Geneva is the epicentre of multilateralism. Switzerland is looking forward to organising the summit."
