Suvendu Adhikari's Bengal recipe: Machh Bhaat at ₹5; no liquor near schools, temples
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has introduced a new fish and rice meal at subsidized rates in canteens. Liquor shops will now be banned near schools and temples. A new scheme, 'Annapurna Yojana', will provide ₹3,000 monthly to women. ...

A major controversy had erupted in the state over the consumption of fish and chicken as former CM Mamata Banerjee had claimed in her poll rallies that if BJP gained power, fish eating would be prohibited. Banerjee had introduced ₹5 egg meal under 'Ma Canteen'.
The CM also announced a ban on liquor shops within a kilometre of educational institutions and temples.
Annapurna Yojana
"Annapurna Yojana forms will be issued from Wednesday. All Indians are eligible to receive benefits," the CM announced. Under this scheme, the state government would give ₹3,000 per month to women. He said Lakshmir Bhandar will be discontinued only after the new scheme is started.
Rule of Law, not Party's Law
"We must work with constructive ideas keeping aside political differences. Throughout the year, there should be coordination between the elected representatives and the administration," Adhikari said after an administrative meeting with MLAs and officials of Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and Nadia. Disgruntled Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar was present at the administrative meeting. At another meeting in north Bengal, 11 Trinamool MLAs were invited.
'Leave country quickly'
"We have told the police not to send them (foreigners) to jail. They will eat free meals in jail. We will give them clothes and free medicine... Leave the country quickly or the government will take necessary steps," Suvendu Adhikari said.
