Bomb scare at RG Kar Medical College as suspicious bag found near premises

In a tense development in Kolkata on Thursday, a suspicious bag was discovered near RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Authorities swiftly responded with a bomb disposal squad and a dog squad, as the area was cordoned off and security forces began investigating the situation.


This incident comes amidst ongoing protests by junior doctors who are demanding justice for a colleague who was allegedly raped and murdered. The protests have intensified since the body of the postgraduate trainee was found with severe injuries at RG Kar Medical College on August 9.

RG kar Medical College Case:

In response to the escalating situation, the state government had invited the protesting doctors to a meeting at the state secretariat, Nabanna, on Wednesday evening.

The junior doctors have been vocal about their demands for justice, including enhanced security measures for female health professionals. They are also calling for the suspension of several officials, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner and the state health secretary, accusing them of mishandling the case.

The investigation into the incident is currently being handled by the CBI under the directions of the Calcutta High Court.
