Surge in dengue cases in Uttarakhand crosses 3,000 mark
The number of dengue cases in Uttarakhand, India, has exceeded 3,000, with Dehradun reporting over 1,000 cases and Pauri district recording 736 cases. The state has seen 59 new cases recently, bringing the total to 3,046, with Dehradun accounting ...

In addition to Pauri, Haridwar has reported the second-highest number of cases at 500, followed by Nainital with 489 cases and Udham Singh Nagar with 98. Regrettably, among the 16 recorded fatalities in Uttarakhand, 13 have occurred in the capital, while the remaining three happened in Nainital.
Dr. Pankaj Singh, the state's nodal malaria officer, offered insights, stating, "The virus has an incubation period of 4-14 days, meaning those testing positive in recent days were exposed to the virus some days earlier. It is anticipated that the dengue season will wane between October 15-20, and we are already witnessing a decrease in the number of cases."
Officials have also observed a decline in the virulence of the virus. Singh elaborated, "The peak in cases coincided with high temperatures and humidity. As temperatures begin to decrease, the reported strains are less fatal."
However, officials are emphasizing the continued importance of caution and adherence to necessary precautions until the official end of the dengue season.
This year's dengue numbers mark the highest since 2019, when over 10,000 cases were reported. Insights from sources within the department indicate that they had anticipated higher numbers this year as well. Nevertheless, strategies such as creating micro containment zones and implementing source segregation have effectively managed the issue. Officials plan to employ these strategies in the coming years as well.
