Supreme Court upholds Chhattisgarh HC order in Bhupesh Baghel election petition matter.
A three-member bench headed by CJI Surya Kant disposed of Baghel's plea, challenging the high court's interim order dated June 15, by which his application seeking rejection of the election petition was dismissed.
The petition stems from the 2023 assembly polls, where Bhupesh Baghel was declared elected from Patan with 95,438 votes, defeating Vijay Baghel, who polled 75,715 votes. Vijay Baghel's petition alleges that Bhupesh Baghel organised a rally or roadshow on November 16, 2023, during the 48-hour "silence period".
