The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Friday a plea filed by a lawyers' outfit, raising the issue of the alleged breach of the prime minister's security in Punjab.

The matter was mentioned by senior advocate Maninder Singh on Thursday before a bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.

"What are you expecting from this court," the CJI asked. Singh said he wanted a probe into the alleged lapse so as to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Singh also wanted the district magistrate of Bhatinda to secure all evidence related to the issue.

"Such incidents should not recur. There should be a professional and effective investigation into the bandobast," Singh said. The petition also sought the immediate suspension of the state police chief and chief secretary and initiation of departmental action against them by the union government.

CJI Ramana then asked him to serve a copy of the petition to the Punjab government. The case is listed for hearing before a CJI-led bench.
