Supreme Court dismisses plea on Taj Mahal, terms it 'publicity interest litigation'

Calling it a "publicity interest litigation", the Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea seeking the opening of certain rooms of the Taj Mahal. The petitioner, Rajneesh Singh, who claimed to be media-in-charge of BJP's Ayodhya unit had appealed against the order of the Allahabad High Court which had also rejected the plea.

A bench of justices MR Shah and MM Sundresh held: "The high court was not in error in dismissing the petition, which is more of a publicity interest litigation. Dismissed."

The petitioner had contended before the high court that many Hindu groups have been claiming that the Taj Mahal is an old Shiva Temple which was known as Tejo Mahalaya.
