Supreme Court Collegium recommends five names to Centre for appointment as apex court judges

The Collegium also recommended the name of Ahsanuddin Amanullah, a judge of the Patna High Court, as SC judge. It recommended Justice Manoj Misra, a judge of the Allahabad High Court, for elevation as an apex court judge.

The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has recommended elevation of five high court judges to the apex court.

Those recommended for elevation to the Supreme Court are Rajasthan High Court chief justice Pankaj Mithal, Manipur High Court chief justice PV Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court chief justice Sanjay Karol, Patna HC judge Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Allahabad High Court judge Manoj Misra.

After the elevation of justice Dipankar Datta, former chief justice of Bombay High Court, SC’s current bench strength is 28 as against the sanctioned strength of 34.


If the five names recommended by the Supreme Court collegium are notified by the central government, then the bench strength of the court will become 33.
