The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the government to file a “comprehensive” reply to various petitions challenging the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, that imposed a blanket ban on online money gaming.

The gaming companies told a bench led by Justice JB Pardiwala that their businesses have been shut for more than a month now, even as the rules have not been notified yet.

The court will further hear the case on November 26.

In September, the apex court transferred to itself all the petitions pending in the high courts of Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi against the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which imposed a blanket ban on online money gaming.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had sought transfer of the pending cases to the top court, arguing that the high courts might arrive at inconsistent findings on the same central legislation, creating legal uncertainty. A consolidated hearing before the top court would ensure uniformity of judicial pronouncements and avoid conflicting decisions, it stated.
