Several supporters assembled and started sloganeering “No ILP, No Rest”. This affected the normal life in the city as vehicles were stranded due to sit in protest.
CoMSO leader Roykupar Synrem said to media persons that the protest was meant to send warning to the government not to take people for a ride. “It is more than a year that the state government passed a resolution for ILP, however the Centre government is yet to respond if the same is accepted or not.”
The organisation has threatened that it will close down the secretariat if the ILP is not pursued. “There is no need for a secretariat if the people whom we elected do not look after our demands.”
There was demand from pressure groups to set up entry points to check influx. There was also demand for introduction of ILP in Meghalaya.
The Meghalaya assembly in 2019 passed a resolution for introduction of ILP system. ILP is in force in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram. Later on Manipur was also brought under ILP.
