These cities include Bengaluru, Greater Visakhapatnam, Patna, Ahmedabad, Nashik, Ludhiana, Chennai, Meerut, Varanasi, Kolkata, Faridabad and Lucknow.
The PLFS report will provide information for persons aged 15 years and above on indicators such as the labour force participation rate, worker population ratio, unemployment rate, and employment status. Meanwhile, ASUSE will cover the number of establishments, employment, gross value added (GVA) per establishment, and share of firms using the internet for business, among other metrics.
According to the consultation paper released by the ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MoSPI) on Friday, the final set of indicators will be refined in consultation with the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for enterprise surveys.
ET reported earlier that the ministry will publish city-wise PLFS and ASUSE data for these cities. The cities are identified as per the population census 2011, and the reports are expected to be published annually.
“The initiative aims to enhance the availability of granular urban statistics, support city-level policy formulation, contribute to city-level GDP (gross domestic product) estimation, and improve understanding of urban labour markets and enterprise dynamics,” the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry has invited stakeholder feedback on the proposed framework by May 15, 2026.
