In another incident of unruly passenger behaviour, SpiceJet on Monday said that a passenger, on its SG-8133 Delhi-Hyderabad flight behaved in an inappropriate manner, harassing and causing disturbance to the cabin crew.

"On January 23, 2023, SpiceJet wet-leased Corendon aircraft was scheduled to operate SG-8133 (Delhi-Hyderabad). During boarding at Delhi, one passenger behaved in an unruly and inappropriate manner, harassing and causing disturbance to cabin crew," the airline said.

The complaint was lodged by Sushant Srivastava, the airline's security officer, on behalf of the cabin crew member, they said.

"The cabin crew informed the PIC (pilot-in-command) and security staff about the incident, following which the said passenger and a co-passenger, who were travelling together, were offloaded and handed over to the security team," it further said.

A senior official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it is looking into the matter and will take appropriate action.

The passenger has been identified as Absar Alam, a resident of Jamia Nagar in Delhi. He was travelling to Hyderabad with his family.

During take-off, Alam allegedly misbehaved with a woman member of the crew. He was offloaded thereafter and taken to the police station by the SpiceJet security and the PCR staff, the police said.

The accused was booked under Section 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code at IGIA (Indira Gandhi International Airport) police station and arrested.

In the last few months, airlines have been seeing many incidents of unruly passenger behaviour on flights. Tata-owned Air India was caught in the eye of storm after a passenger in the business class of its India- New York flight urinated on an elderly woman.
